Jessica Wragg started in butchery aged 16, in her local farmshop. Following almost a decade spent behind the counter, she began writing about the meat industry in national and international news outlets, working behind the counter alongside her MA in Creative Writing.
In 2019, she released her debut memoir, Girl on the Block: a true story of coming of age behind the counter, by DoubleDey Harper Collins. The book was released worldwide, in the USA, UK, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand, and was optioned for television by Jax Media. She has since gone on to feature on the BBC, Channel 4, The Times, The Independent and within a quarterly column on butchery in BBC Good Food. As of 2024, she appears on Channel 4's Sunday Brunch as a regular host of a butchery and meat-focused segment.
She is a passionate advocate for women within the meat industry and the retainment of femininity by female butchers, and has written extensively about the challenges faced by butchers within the UK and further abroad. She currently teaches butchery classes to restaurants, and is a regular commentator on the current climate of the modern day meat industry.
