Gerry began his working career in Ireland in 1979 with Board na Mona, the governmental Bog Development authority. He was a member of the land development section, responsible for alternative land use options for the cut away bogs. Gerry furthered his academic standing studying in The Netherlands in 1982 at Vaganingen University.
In 1988 Gerry took up the position as feed lot manager with Irish Agricultural Development Company. There he was responsible for developing efficient beef finishing systems for different market requirements for beef. In excess of 20,000 cattle were slaughtered off this farm each year.
In 1996 Gerry joined Richard Keenan & Co. a global leader in animal beef production systems as group beef development manager. During his time with Richard Keenan & Co. he travelled extensively throughout the world, including Europe, South Africa, Argentina, Sudan, Australia, New Zealand, China, Korea, South East Asia, Turkey, India and the U.S.A. Gerry established his own beef nutrition consultancy business in 2001 and has continued to work all over the world, developing efficient beef production systems.(cow calf to beef, grass fed beef, veal production, grain fed beef, Holstein bull systems etc).
He is also part of a consortium of beef industry experts with a regular technical piece appearing in a national farming magazine. Together with son, Gerry established Farm Tours Ireland, turning his skills to leading tours of interested farmer groups and groups from the wider farm industry within Ireland showcasing the uniqueness of Irish production systems.
