Les Flanagan

Les Flanagan has worked in the meat industry for almost 55 years and started in the trade at the age of 15 as a butcher's boy including working for a short time at Smithfield Market. His first full time job was as a trainee butcher and over the years he worked with both large and small retailers; he undertook an additional job in a slaughterhouse to become a Master Butcher in his mid-twenties.

Les opened his own traditional butcher's shop in Crawley Down, West Sussex 30 years ago, which grew to employing up to 14 staff. Les provided work opportunities for many local youngsters over the years, a number of whom went on to take up butchery. His shop enjoyed an excellent reputation locally and for several miles further afield.
